Description
A gift to the people of the United States from the people of France, the Statue of Liberty is an icon of freedom and of the United States, welcoming visitors entering New York Harbor since 1886. Designed by French sculptor Frédéric Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel, the neoclassical copper statue was built in France, shipped overseas in crates, and assembled atop the grand pedestal on Liberty Island.
