Have you noticed how many historic anniversaries are popping up this year?
So far, we’ve created postcards celebrating:
Now, here’s another one: 2025 marks the 100th anniversary of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Now that the cover artwork is in the public domain, we’re excited to share this commemorative postcard with all our literary fans.
Considered a classic and often called the “Great American Novel,” The Great Gatsby was first published in 1925.
The Author
F. Scott Fitzgerald was an American novelist known for capturing the spirit and excess of the Jazz Age.
Cover Design
The original cover, called “Celestial Eyes,” was painted by Francis Cugat in 1924—even before Fitzgerald finished the novel.
Fitzgerald was so taken with Cugat’s artwork that he wrote its imagery into the novel, most notably in the recurring motif of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg’s eyes on a billboard.
The cover is now considered one of the most iconic book covers in literary history.
Fun Trivia
The Great Gatsby wasn’t a commercial success during Fitzgerald's lifetime and sold fewer than 23,000 copies in its first year.
Yet today, Fitzgerald is regarded as one of America’s greatest writers, and The Great Gatsby is his most celebrated novel.
