Description
When opened in 1883, the bridge provided the only land passage between New York City's boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Conceived by German immigrant John Roebling, the hybrid cable-stayed/suspension bridge is one of the oldest roadway bridges in the United States and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964.
