Description
When opened in 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge provided the only land passage between New York City's boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Conceived by German immigrant John Roebling, the hybrid cable-stayed/suspension bridge is one of the oldest roadway bridges in the United States and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964.
