Description

When the Michigan Central Station opened in 1913, Detroit's main passenger depot was the tallest rail station in the world. By the 1940s, 200 trains each day carried 4,000 passengers while 3,000 people worked in the office tower above. With the growth of automobile ownership in the 1950s, train travel gradually diminished. In 1988, the last Amtrak train pulled away from the station. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the station has been featured in several films, including the climatic fight scene in the 2016 movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
