Ice skating at the base of the iconic Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center is one of New York City's most celebrated traditions. A temporary rink was installed in 1936, which was warmly welcomed by New Yorkers. In 1939, a permanent rink was installed and has become one of the most famous skating rinks in the world.
