Rural Mail Carrier Postcard

Prior to 1896, residents of rural areas had to travel to a distant post office to pick up their mail, or pay for delivery by a private carrier.  Under President Grover Cleveland rural routes were put into operation, initially starting with 82 and slowly expanding to 80,000 as of 2022.
