California is celebrating a big milestone this year—175 years since it became the 31st state on September 9, 1850.
Most of the festivities will happen around September, but we wanted to give you a heads-up now in case you’re thinking about going to the WESTPEX Stamp Show in San Francisco on April 23–27, 2025. The theme this year is “The Golden State at 175,” and it’s shaping up to be a great celebration.
To join in the fun, we created a special 175th anniversary version of our “Greetings from California” postcard. It’s our little way of marking this historic moment.
There’s also a Postcrossing meetup at the event. Our longtime customer, Trevor B. (Angelthepup22), is slated to be the master of ceremonies for the Dahlias stamp dedication. How cool is that?
BTW - we’re planning an interview with Trevor later this autumn to share his story with you.
Curious about the WESTPEX Postcrossing meetup?

By the way, the new Dahlia stamps go perfectly with our dahlia postcard!

Milestone Celebrations
Along with California’s 175th anniversary, 2025 is packed with other big milestones:
-
U.S. Army 250th | The USPS is releasing a stamp to honor the Army’s 250th birthday.
-
U.S. Navy 250th | The USPS is releasing a stamp to honor the Navy’s 250th birthday.
-
U.S. Marine Corps 250th | The USPS is releasing a stamp to honor the Marine’s 250th birthday.
- The Great Gatsby 100th | F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel turns 100.
We’re planning to create postcards for each of these historic milestones.

We’ve run into a challenge: we often create new postcards faster than we can announce them in the newsletter.
Some weeks, there’s so much happening that we could easily send two newsletters. Since that’s not practical, we’re trying something new.
We’ve added a “New Arrivals” section to our website where you’ll find new postcards as soon as they’re finished—even before they appear in the newsletter.
We’ll still highlight new releases in future newsletters, but you can always check “New Arrivals” to see what’s been added recently.
