In the past week or so I've had several people ask: "will you be creating a 'Peace for Ukraine' postcard?"
While I didn't have plans to create one, I was ready to take a break from updating the "Greetings From" USA state postcards.
The postcard image above is the result, featuring the iconic peace symbol with a 1960s vibe.
In my research for the description on the back, did you know:
- The peace symbol was originally designed as the logo for the British Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament?
- The symbol was adopted by anti-war and counterculture activists around the world?
- The symbol is a super-imposition of the semaphore signals for the letters "N" and "D", taken to stand for "nuclear disarmament”?
(BTW - In case you're ever on Jeopardy, a semaphore signal is an alphabet signaling system based on the waving of a pair of hand-held flags in a particular pattern.)
I always like learning new things. I had no idea. Did you?
