Three quick updates for you today: prices, cicadas, and World Postcard Day.

In last week's newsletter we examined how inflation has impacted the prices of postage and our postcards.
We saw that the cost of postage has kept up with inflation, while our postcard prices have not.
Due to inflation, we discovered we are earning 28¢ less per postcard in 2024 than when we started in 2017.
I asked if you would be willing to pay $1.25/postcard. Here's a sampling of responses we received:
- Yes, I would pay 1.25 because your postcards are unique.
- I would be willing to pay $1.25 per postcard. The world needs great postcards like yours!
- I will still be a loyal customer if you raise your rates to $1.25.
- Your postcards are beautiful. I would pay more for them.
- I think you deserve $1.25 for your well made postcards.
- Your postcards are of such amazing quality, I absolutely would purchase them at the higher price. We want you to be able to stay in business!
- You certainly won’t lose my business.
- I would very much purchase postcards at a higher cost, especially since your cards are such high quality.
- I would pay the increase to keep you, a small company, in business.
- Please oh please increase your postcard cost to reflect accurately and because I want you in business. Having it $1.25 is very fair.
Several mentioned they would need to cut back as a result, but understood the need to increase our prices.
As a result, here's what we're going to do:
- As of October 1, 2024, our postcards will be priced at $1.25.
- October was chosen for two significant reasons: to allow for a 77-day preparation period and to coincide with our anniversary month.
- Going forward, each October will see an annual price adjustment to reflect inflation rates.
Now that the Cicada Invasion of 2024 is over, we have a ton of postcards left over.
Coming on the heals of the Solar Eclipse postcards—which continued to sell out—I overestimated the demand for cicada postcards.
Despite my optimistic print order, the expected interest did not materialize.
