I was planning to release our World Postcard Day postcard next week, but Postcrossing played their hand with the release of the official World Postcard Day design this past Sunday.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. Onward to this week's newsletter.
If you are unfamiliar, World Postcard Day is an annual celebration that takes place on October 1st, dedicated to promoting and celebrating the tradition of sending postcards.
The celebration is organized by Postcrossing—a global online community project connecting people worldwide through the exchange of postcards.
For each postcard you send, you receive a postcard back from a random Postcrosser located somewhere in the world.
Here's a graphic showing the process:

If this year's design looks familiar, you're correct.
When I set out to design the 2nd World Postcard Day postcard, I asked if I should:
- Create a new design, or
- Stick with the classic and revisit the design in 5 years?
The overwhelming majority voted for "don't mess with a classic!"
Every year since, I have made slight adjustments to the design. Most notably, I rotate the landmarks around the globe 1/5 of a turn. By year 5 (this year), all the landmarks have been revealed.
Before next year's design, I will send out a survey asking if I should create a new design or stick with the classic.
This year's design is once again available in two formats: a standard 4x6 postcard and a commemorative 4x9 panorama postcard show above.
Both postcards are now available for pre-order. The printer shipped the postcards yesterday afternoon, and I expect to receive them early next week, ready for shipping.
You're welcome to place your pre-order now to secure your cards early.
