From Maryland to Oklahoma, Illinois to Alabama, billions of cicadas will emerge this spring for a rare double-brood event.
Two different broods of cicadas—Brood XIX and Brood XIII—will co-emerge for the first time since 1803. For you history buffs, Thomas Jefferson was President in 1803.

While brood XIX lives on a 13-year cycle and Brood XIII lives on a 17-year cycle, this year’s dual emergence is a once-in-a-lifetime event.

While 13-year and 17-year broods can occasionally emerge at the same time, Brood XIII and Brood XIX cicadas won’t sync up again for another 221 years!

To celebrate this rare historic event, we created these "punny" postcards. We hope you like them as much as we did creating them!
