In our last newsletter, I asked if there was an interest in us creating an Olympic postcard. Enough customers said "yes", so I began to work on a design.
However, I quickly discovered the words and visuals associated with the Olympics are protected by International Property rights, including the:
- Olympic rings
- Flag
- Motto
- Torch
- Mascot
- Logo emblems
- Pictograms
- Plus the words "Olympic Games", "Olympic", "Olympics", "Olympic torch", "Olympian", "Paris 2024"
Further, the United States Olympic & Paralympic Properties controls similar trademarked words, phrases, and logos in the USA—including the phrase "TEAM USA".
Well, there went all my original ideas.
With limited options remaining, it was time to find a creative solution.
I chose to repurpose our USA State Flag postcard and have the stripes of the flag include all the Olympic events the United States teams will participate in—PLUS the Eiffel Tower on the back!
